Dear Bill and Jim, We opened Brenda Lopez Plaza to the public on June 15, 2002. The opening celebration was a great success with lots of entertainment, food, speeches, kids, dancing, balloons, piñatas and fun. I think everybody had a good time. Since the opening the plaza has become a welcome neighborhood place for the community to socialize, play or just hang out. The project has fulfilled many of the Redevelopment Agency's ambitions for this project, linking the Washington Elementary School to the Youth Center and Biblioteca, calming neighborhood traffic; and providing a focus for the local community. This letter is to thank you for your excellent contribution to the project. In the process of developing the design with your company, Agency staff were always very impressed by the crisp methodical way in which you encouraged orderly decisions to get to a beautiful, practical, project. It's worth noting here that the documents that you produced to build the project were clear and compelling; we were able to keep change orders to an absolute minimum.
