Las Positas College Mertes Center for the Arts is a LEED® Silver project that includes a 1,500-seat amphitheater used for education, performances, and community events. The grounds feature native grasses and oak trees, as well as formal plantings that accentuate building entries, provide seasonal color, and lend a traditional campus feel. The Center for the Arts site incorporates a number of sustainable design strategies, including a turf-tiered amphitheater that retains and filters rainwater—and provides comfortable seating on hot days. Water efficiency is enhanced by plantings that filter and detain storm water prior to its release into the municipal system.
