At Piner High School, campus improvements occur in a number of phases in which existing buldings are renovated and new buildings are added, in addition to
a reworking of outside spaces. Accessibility, safety, aesthetics, circulation, and the creation of active spaces are all issues of concern that Carducci & Associates
successfully addressed in the campus improvement.
At the entrance street intersection of the campus, Carducci & Associates designed a park like setting of large
lawns and groves of trees that enhances the view of the school. At the northern drop-off area, students immediately see the "Green", a place for informal play and
a meeting space. The internal campus features strong geometries in the design of allees of colorful plum, cherry, and pear trees.
Carducci & Associates also created
a number of functional and unique gathering spaces such as the Sports Court, Science Court, Study Court, Garden Court, and Reading Court. A new staging area
in the Spirit Court composed of an elevated stage and a combination of both hardscapes and soft lawns creates an area for events in the center of the campus. Both
buildings and outside spaces are connected with wave like canopies, fences, and walls.
