As a result of an entire campus replacement at Ernesto Galarza Elementary school, Carducci & Associates, Inc. was responsible for the landscape improvements of the 7.75-acre campus. Carducci & Associates designed all aspects of the campus, including site layout, grading, drainage, planting, irrigation, and construction details. Carducci & Associates successfully created several functional spaces within the campus. The entrance to the campus is called the Art park and features a circular grove of birch trees and boulders, which frames the path to the school flagpole, main administration building, and clock tower. At the center of the campus a lunch court with an allee of flowering pear trees creates an intimate meeting and observing place for students.
An outdoor kindergarten garden features a play-stream, a storytelling area, and a playground. The campus also features a large, multiuse turf field and a variety of types of hardscape play courts. The project fronts three public streets and therefore contains extensive tree planting. The overall tree palette of oak and fruit trees reflects the agricultural heritage of the San Jose Valley. The school also contains a rich and eclectic mix of colorful and draught-resistant ornamental shrubs, groundcovers, flowers and grasses.
