Dublin Fire Station:Dublin Fire Station Two Fire Stations, one two-bay, 0.8-acre, and one three-bay, 1-acre, were required by the City of Dublin. Carducci & Associates Inc. acted as landscape architect for these facilities, which must serve as garages for emergency service vehicles and comfortable living and exercise quarters for several firefighters. The Dublin Fire Station projects utilized Best Management Practices, including the use of recycled water, low-flow irrigation systems, and green technologies for subsurface reservoir irrigation. Waste wash water from fire trucks is recycled within irrigation reservoirs, and cleaned by healthy and active microbial soils, eventually entering the storm drain system. In an effort to provide clients with Best Management Practice options in their developments, Carducci & Associates, Inc. researches and utilizes resource conservation and protection technologies where possible or appropriate. One such option is a reservoir-based alternative irrigation technology that uses less water, eliminates overspray and irrigation runoff, stores storm runoff, removes pollutants from runoff prior to discharge into municipal drainage systems, recycles second-use water, helps suppress weeds, eliminates compaction problems in planting areas, and is constructed almost entirely from recycled materials. Carducci & Associates, Inc. is currently involved in the first municipal use of this technology in the region, at two Fire Stations in Dublin, California. |
